Women Helping Children for 100 Years
Not many nonprofits make it for 100 years, but the Charity League of Charlotte has been making history since 1921. This group of women started with Mrs. E.C. Marshall’s (Bertha) Sunday School class comprised of a dozen young girls from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on South Tryon Street. Since then, Charity League has shed sunshine into the lives of thousands of Charlotte children.
Since the poverty rate in Charlotte is 14.9%, meaning every 6.7 residents of Charlotte live in poverty, it takes compassionate vision to make our community a better place, especially for children. As it has done for 100 years, Charity League, an all women’s volunteer philanthropic organization, continues to support children in Charlotte’s most underserved communities. If you’re a woman who wants to volunteer and contribute to the well-being of children, you can apply to join the Charity League by clicking here. If you can’t volunteer you can donate before the end of the year.
