North Carolina Is Expecting Snow! Try These Snow Day Activities

Right now it’s looking like there is a pretty good chance we are going to get at least some snow here in the piedmont of North Carolina. Kids, I sincerely hope I didn’t just jinx that for you. Where I am in the south part of Charlotte it seems like it’s been YEARS since we’ve gotten any significant accumulation. But that won’t keep me from holding out hope for a winter wonderland. As a kid there was nothing more exciting than a snow day and all the fun activities that came with it!

The current forecast has us expecting a mix of snow and ice, I’m personally hoping that leans more snow! Precipitation is supposed to begin Saturday night and continue throughout the day Sunday. Currently, there is an 80% change and accumulation could be anywhere from 3-8 inches per some forecasts.

While we all get our hopes up or pray for just rain depending on who you are, here are some ideas for snow day activities just in case we get one!

• Build A Snowman

  Share

  Do you want to build a snowman?? Come on you know you want to sing it! Is there anything more "snow day" than creating a snowy friend. Grab that extra scarf, a hat, broom, button for a nose, and some coal and get to rolling.

• Make A Hot Cocktail or Mocktail

  If staying in and having a drink if your idea of winter fun then try making a new drink. I love a good spiced cider. You can take any apple cider (the grocery store has receipes) and add a shot or two of liqour. I love WinterJack by Jack Daniels but any whisky or dark rum will work. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy.

• Gor For A Walk

  If you want to get out and enjoy the scenery but "playing' isn't really your speed then just take a walk. It's fun to just get out and be in the snow once it's fallen. Take your dog for some extra entertainment. Enjoy the snowmen and watching the kids playing!
• Read A Book

  Share

  If you want nothing to do with the cold (understandable), grab that book you've been wanting to read. A snow day is the perfect excuse to curl up under a blanket and get some reading in.

• Have A Snowball Fight

  Share

  Grab your friends or significant other and get to work rolling snowballs. While you may not be as good at it as Buddy the Elf a snowball fight is classic fun.

• Make A Fire

  Share

  Turn on that gas fireplace you never use, build a fire if you have the means, or simply pull up a youtube video on your tv of a fire place. There is nothing better to set the mood for your snow day than the crackling of logs.
• Go Sledding

  No sled no problem. In college we used the lids of those plastic tubs and they worked perfectly! Sledding is fun no matter what your age is. And who doesn't want to feel like a kid again?

• Have A Movie Marathon

  One of my favorite things to binge watch on snow days is Harry Potter. There are enough movies to last being snowed in a couple of days. But whatever your movie of choice you can't go wrong.

• Make Snow Cream

  It's a yummy treat you can only enjoy (at least in the south) every once in a while. To make snow cream you just need four ingredients: 1 can evaporated milk (12 ounces) 1 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla Bowl of Snow (about 1/2 gallon) Mix the milk, sugar, and flavoring together and then pour over the snow and stir well.
• Organize Your Closet

  Share

  To most people this may not be the most "fun" of the snow day activities but when else are you going to do it? You have the time so might as well do something productive.

• Bake Cookies

  Picture this, you just came in from out in the snow, you have a warm drink in your hand, the fire is burning, and you take some warm cookies out of the oven. Is there anything better?
