Panthers Seek $800 Million Renovation Deal for Bank of America Stadium
Looks like Bank of America Stadium is going to look a little different. Renovation talks for Bank of America Stadium started up when WR Adam Thielen gave his very blunt take on what the stadium looks like right now. Thielen was speaking with the Charlotte Observer when he told them “I think they’re behind a little bit as far as facilities, in light of the Panthers’ proposed updates. “We probably have the worst facilities in the NFL right now, and I don’t think there is anybody who would argue that. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. You gotta go play football, and you gotta go win games.
Bank of America Stadium Renovation Deal
Two years ago the Panthers had plans to do construction on a new 245-acre practice complex that they wanted to build in Rock Hill but those plans were eventually scrapped. Now the franchise has proposed a partnership deal that would include $800 million to renovate the 28-year-old stadium and keep the team in Charlotte for an additional 20 years.
Within the next few weeks city council members are expected to meet about the project. The city’s share would be funded by existing hospitality and tourism tax resources, which are legally required by the state to be spent on projects to support the city’s tourism economy. Team President Kristi Coleman said, “The renovations are about modernizing the stadium to deliver elevated experiences while preserving the overall character and location that fans have known and loved for decades.” Upgraded video and audio systems, modernized infrastructure, redesigned concourses, unique social areas with skyline views, and exterior spaces for community gatherings and programming are all included in the enhancements that will be a part of this deal.
“Our goal is to build a collaborative partnership so that this community asset can continue to generate unique and memorable experiences for fans, as well as economic impact for the city and region for years to come,” said Coleman.
