August is coming to an end. that means summer is too but don’t panic just yet. Why? Because it’s time for some freaky facts.

Just like the days before and the ones to come, the history is weird, a little scary and we’ve got a list of them for you to enjoy. Knowing major past events is important to understand how we live life today and I’ve got some rather freaky facts for you to explore.

Seeing what happened in the past fascinates me. You might think I’m weird, but I find history interesting because of the weird and scary things that happen. Here are 5 of the weirdest and scariest facts for August 30th.

• National Grief Awareness Day

  It's time to own up and accept your grief today. Cry it out, baby. August 30th is known as a national grief awareness day. This day has been in observance since 2014.

  It's Slinky Day, which means one of the world's most recognizable toys makes its way down steps with a little more swagger. In 1943, as a naval engineer, Richard James was working on a project where springs held up items on moving ships when he accidentally knocked down a spring and observed it coil itself neatly. It was an idea-inspiring moment, and along with his wife, Betty, a plan was hatched to create a new toy. Betty looked through a dictionary and came up with the name "Slinky," and the couple founded James Industries in 1945 with a 500 dollar loan. Now people enjoy these fun toys still to this day! I think that's pretty cool if you ask me.

  August 30th, 2005 was 24 hrs after Hurricane Katrina. This was the day 24 after the hurricane hit New Orleans. 80% of the area flooded with up to 15 feet of water and the rescue operation continues with rescuers in helicopters and boats picking up hundreds of stranded people from rooftops.
