Marilyn Monroe’s Dress Sells for 5.6 Million
Marilyn Monroe’s white “Subway” dress, the infamous white costume dress from the film “The Seven Year Itch” sold for more than 5.6 million in a Beverly Hills, California auction last Saturday night. To this day, this auction transaction remains one of the world records for the most expensive article of clothing ever sold! She makes history as the first series of auctions to sell the massive Hollywood collection that singer, dancer, and actress Debbie Reynolds accumulated over the past 50 years. “Totally crazy, especially in this recession.” Said Collector Keya Morgan. “Bidding for the iconic ivory pleated dress Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch was so magical.”
According to CNN Entertainment, with the auction company getting a $1 million commission, the buyer will pay 5.6 million. It had been expected to sell for 2 million, the auction house.
It’s noted that the previous record price for Monroe’s dress was $1.26 million paid in 1999 for the sheer white
dress the actress wore in May 1962 when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy, Remember back in 2016, Snickers recreated and iconic commercial featuring Marilyn Monroe in her “Subway” dress, well it made an appearance in the Super Bowl commercials where they filmed a man in a dress and the producers told him to eat a Snickers. The famous saying “You’re not you when you are hungry” took place as after he ate the candy bar, Marilyn Monroe returned to normal by saying “Much better.”
