Verizon Provider Imposters
With over 14 billion cell phones in the world it makes sense for scams to target these customers. By the time you read this article the numbers could increase to 15 billion customers. This is the first time of me seeing a Verizon imposter provider scam. It’s crazy to see the projections for 2025 of having over 18 billion mobile devises. Depending on what country you live in there are roughly 30 providers. To make a long story short, Verizon customers are receiving a text with a deal that seems too good to be true. This phishing campaign verbiage is tricky because it looks like you’re getting a reward for paying your bill.
When you click the link to secure your reward for paying your bill on time you’ll be asked to fill-in the form. You’ll be asked for your name, phone number, address and social security number. The golden rule is to never give out your social security number unless it’s on an official IRS website with a dot gov at the end of web address. Lately we’ve been asked to share our social security number with our employer even though they have it on record. But that seems reasonable since we’re doing this transaction in person.
