At this point, it seems like everyone is getting Covid-19. I had a conversation with a friend the other day and we both feel it’s not if, it’s when someone will get it. That being said the main thing you want to avoid with Covid is severe disease and death. Between omicron being more like a cold and the vaccines many people who get it will experience few or mild symptoms. Researchers around the world have reported that Omicron is more transmissible than Delta, which is why we are seeing so many breakthroughs and repeat infections. Research still says that the new strain may cause less severe illness than the previous strains.
Regardless, health officials have warned an Omicron-driven surge could still increase hospitalization and death rates. This is especially in areas with less vaccinated populations. And honestly, isn’t that the ideal situation? Unfortunately, we have lost millions across the world due to Covid-19. But what North Carolina counties have seen the most deaths per capita? Stacker compiled a list of the North Carolina counties with the highest cumulative COVID-19 death rate using data from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Counties are ranked by the highest death rate per 100,000 residents as of Jan. 18, 2021.
