Independence Day is July 4th, and while we all love wearing red, white, and blue, and enjoying our day off of work, how much do you actually know about The Fourth of July?
Here are 6 things you may not know about the fourth!

Our national bird was almost a turkey
- Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey as the national bird but was overruled by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who recommended the bald eagle… This probably would have put a wrench in Thanksgiving if things had gone differently.

People celebrate around a grill
- Approximately 150 million hot dogs and 700 million pounds of chicken are consumed on this day.

Our National Anthem originated from an old drinking song.
- The tune of the National Anthem was originally used by an English drinking song called “To Anacreon in Heaven.”

Lots of people have died on the 4th
- President John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe all died on the Fourth. Adams and Jefferson (both signed the Declaration) died on the same day within hours of each other in 1826…spooky!
