On Tuesday, Contigo announced a recall of 5.7 million kids water bottles. The self-proclaimed “leading innovator of water bottles, travel mugs, and kids bottles” posted the news to their website and social platforms, citing a choking hazard.
“Contigo identified that the water bottle’s clear silicone spout in some cases may detach from the lid of the water bottle,” the statement reads. “The incident rate of consumer reporting the separation of the silicone spout is very low and no injuries have been reported.”
The company is voluntarily recalling the lids and asking customers who may have bought the product in question between April 2018 and June 2019 to visit their site for more info and a free lid replacement.
According to Business Insider, there have been 149 reported detached spouts, 18 of which occurred in children’s mouths. The recall only affects the 13-ounce, 14-ounce, and 20-ounce “Kids Cleanable” bottles with the black-colored spout base and color. To read more, click here.
