Black History Month Charlotte Spotlight: A Trinidad Heritage Story
In honor of Black History Month, we have turned the spotlight to the arts to represent Charlotte natives that are making a positive impact on both our culture and our city today.
Black history month helps me to remember my Trinidad Heritage it teaches me that it’s not where you were born but the message you can teach others and share about your black historical background and upbringing. It also helps to show how you can overcome any obstacles that may come your way.
I choose to use Spoken Word Poetry by Publishing my very first book to prove that our culture and skin color should not hold us back but push us further to establish greatness. So that is why I hold a class in the Library every Black History Month to help our teens to see that they now are the ones chosen to break the racial barriers and paved the way just like Martin Luther King thought us in his Dream.
