Update: Raleigh Cobra Sighted By News Reporter And Is In The Process of Being Captured

Update: According to WRAL the snake has been found, cornered, and is in the process of being captured. The snake will not be returned to its owner.

The Raleigh Cobra as it’s now being referred to has been sighted by a local CBS reporter. In case you missed it the snake was first seen Monday and has avoided the authorities ever since. The story has made national news and has terrified neighbors. CBS17’s Judith Retana spotted the zebra cobra just after noon on Wednesday. Retana was headed to knock on the door of a home when she looked down and saw the snake on the porch, just feet from her. According to the news station, Retana said it seemed like she made eye contact with the snake. She quickly alerted the nearby police officers that she had seen something resembling the missing reptile.

Retana got very lucky as the snake doesn’t need to be in striking distance to injure or even kill. This particular species is able to spit its highly toxic venom, typically aiming for the eyes of its victims. A bite or any contact with the venom can cause serious injury or death. Animal control officers on the scene are outfitted in face shieldthe s and gloves.

The area where the snake was spotted is blocked off and animal control is on the scene searching for the snake in hopes of capturing it. No word on what will happen when the Raleigh Cobra is (hopefully captured). The owner is in possession of numerous poisonous snakes and was even bitten by one this March, requiring anti-venom to be flown in from Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC.

One of my best friends lives just 3 miles from this neighborhood,  so this story hits very close to home. If it’s captured would you support the snake being returned to it’s owner?
