Gamecocks’ Dawn Staley Will Drive in Upcoming NASCAR Race
Calling all Gamecock fans! Your favorite coach, Dawn Staley, will be hitting the speedways as she drives a pace car for the upcoming NASCAR race at Darlington. Jeremiah Holloway, with The State, reports that on September 4, 2022, Staley will serve as the honorary pace car driver.
Staley will hit the tracks at The Cook Out Southern 500 NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Darlington Raceway. According to The State, she attended the same race in 2017 after winning her first basketball national championship. Now, she is returning to the raceways. The State reports that Staley said, “The staff, the drivers, and fans are so welcoming and connected and that’s the energy I’m always happy to be associated with.” So, are you ready to see Staley on the tracks? The Darlington Labor Day race weekend falls on September 3rd and September 4th. Staley will take part in the race that kicks off Round 16.
