South Carolina Named One Of The Most Dangerous States For Online Dating
Are you online dating in South Carolina? Dating sucks right now. I don’t think many people would dispute that. And it seems like one of the only ways to meet people is through online dating. Which while it can work, is not without risk. Because let’s be honest you never know who that person you’re talking to on an app actually is. If you are online dating in South Carolina well I have some bad news for you.
A new study by PrivacyJournal.net ranked each us state from the safest to the most dangerous when it comes to online dating. Online dating in South Carolina came out as the 6th most dangerous nationwide. Metrics used in this study include things like romance scams, sex offenders, violent crime, and STD reports among other factors.
Each of these statistics was weighted based on their prevalence per 100,000 residents in each state. If you’re looking for safe online dating head north as Vermont came out on top. Far from online dating in South Carolina which was an abysmal 6th. See the top 10 states where online dating is the most dangerous:
- Nevada
- Alaska
- Georgia
- Florida
- Arizona
- South Carolina
- Delaware
- Lousiana
- Texas
- Arkansas
In contrast, North Carolina was 20th. So if you’re able perhaps cross the border to look for love! It’s certainly safer.
Let’s now take a little bit of a deep dive into online dating in South Carolina. Here’s how SC scored on the metrics in this study:
- Romance Scams: 5.4
- Identity Theft: 220
- Fraud: 334

- STD Reports: 1,062
- Violent Crime: 491.3
- Overall Score: 44.13
Some of my tips if you are choosing to participate in online dating in South Carolina or really anywhere include meeting in a public place the first time. I also prefer to do brunch or coffee so there is no awkward ending. If you want to spend more time with that person you can but early in the day it’s easy to have an “out”. I’d also extremely caution against letting someone know where you live to pick you up before you’ve met them.
Also, make sure your friends know who you are with and where you are going. This is a great time to share your location via things like Life 360. Online dating can have great results but stay safe out there! I don’t want to be writing about any of you as missing persons.
