My Struggle Made Me Who I Am – Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte
Christian Brister is a past resident of the Center of Hope Women and Children’s Center in the Charlotte area. As a child, Christian often reflects on the lack of a childhood that she experienced. Growing up, she felt herself facing tons of adult-sized problems at a very early age.
While dealing with chronic homelessness growing up, her siblings and mothers were dealing with the effects on a day to day. During her time in the shelter, the Boys & Girls Club was her escape. She got to meet and interact with other teenagers closer to her age and get a break from the shelter experience.
Christian shares a message that truly resonates with her life. “Everything in life is temporary. Where you are now is not where you are going to be forever.” Everyone’s journey is different, but hers took her from the Center of Hope to UNC Chapel Hill.
