Checking In On Future Plans For Permanently Closed Japanese Restaurant In Myrtle Beach
One of our favorite types of dining out experiences has always been Japanese hibachi style. And, one of the places we used to visit at the beach was a place called Nakato on Hwy 17 near where we stayed. That particular Japanese restaurant in Myrtle Beach has been closed for quite some time now. But, there’s starting to be some talk about what might happen to the space.
Japanese Restaurant In Myrtle Beach And What’s Happening After The Closure
Luckily, Nakato wasn’t the only Japanese restaurant in Myrtle Beach that we enjoyed. Very near is another favorite called Myabi. So, we can always get our cravings satisfied one way or another. But, Nakato, which has been sitting empty since some time in 2019 seemed as though it would be vacant forever.
I always just assumed the closure stemmed from COVID-related issues that many businesses fell prey to. However, in reading an article from The Sun News, I learned it was a fire in 2019 that led to the closure. And, according to the news, the location was sold to another restaurateur in the Myrtle Beach area. But, plans for the future have not been announced.
However, land records indicate the building was sold in April 2024 to another Japanese-inspired spot based in nearby Conway, Ichiban Sushi, and Hibachi. However, the new owners didn’t specify if the new venture would be a restaurant or not. But, it seems it would make sense. That’s their business already, and, the current space is already known and outfitted for such a restaurant.
Plus, with all the beach tourists, the Japanese restaurants that are operating remain packed all the time during the travel season. It’s hard to get a table at Myabi sometimes with lines out the door. They used to take reservations. But, the last time I checked they no longer did unless that changed.
Another one of our faves is Odori in North Myrtle. However, it is strictly table dining with no cook in front of your hibachi. It is very good though! But, if you need a good recommendation for a Japanese restaurant in Myrtle Beach, it is completely satisfactory.
So, we’ll keep our eyes and ears open to see if we learn anything more about the future of this former Japanese restaurant in Myrtle Beach!
