Couple at a candle light dinner date holding hands next to bouquet of red roses.

If you’re like me and are a Netflix junkie, you’ve likely been binging off the newest season of the dating reality show “Love Is Blind”.  What makes this season so special is that it was shot in the Queen City.

Some 30 men and women landed the spot after auditions were held in Charlotte last year (2023). Just like the seasons before, all the participants are looking for their ‘forever person — in an unconventional way. “Love Is Blind” takes contestants on an emotional rollercoaster ride as they get to know each other in pods. They don’t actually get to see the other person until they vibe so well, someone proposes marriage and the other accepts.

I guess some could look at it as a social experiment on steroids. They find true love and choose to get engaged before ever meeting their partner face-to-face. Once they get engaged, they finally meet. Next, they move in together, plan their wedding, and find out if and how their lives can come together. When the wedding days arrive, they each must decide if they want to get married or call it off.

During the entire process, the couples have to find a way to maneuver in the real world and outside of the pods. And since they are in the Queen City, what better ‘world’ to explore? With so many restaurants, lounges, bars and open food halls, the participants had plenty of options for romantic dates and even a night out on the town.

These are some of the spots that help make the Queen City so ‘queenly.’

Footnote: The first six episodes debuted on February 14; episodes 7-9 came out on Feb. 21, followed by episodes 10 and 11 on Feb. 28. The finale will drop on March 6.

  • The Goodyear House - NoDa

The restaurant is nestled in the eclectic neighborhood of NoDa (North Davidson). It’s in a refurbished, renovated house with an absolute Instagram-ready backyard. They call themselves the ‘neighborhood spot serving good food from good farmers. The food is more than good if you ask me. There are down-home, comforting dishes like their shrimp & grits. And then there are the dishes with edge like Devilish toast with smashed egg salad, Calabrian peppers, dill pickle on verdant seedy toast.

You can order online or make a reservation. In the warmer weather, if outdoor seating is your thing – good luck! The outdoor patio fills up quickly.

  • Queen Park Social - Southend

This is like a grown up’s playground. It has all the ingredients of what makes a date fun and non-threatening. There are tons of activities from bowling to arcade games, there’s never a dull moment. And then of course, there is the bar area complete with big screen televisions and some of the most amazing apps. One of my favorites is the seafood nachos. And what bar doesn’t have the classic wings, burger and fries. It’s a great spot to grab a drink or shoot some indoor hoops!

  • Lost & Found

There is no mistaking about this spot. It’s young, spicy, hot and a party place. You know you’re in the ‘in’ crowd if you show up here for a night out. From the swanky interior and the neon lights, and the booming sound system with DJ this is what would be considered the ‘it’ spot. It’s one of the most popular nightclubs in the city in the heart of Southend – which has quickly become one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Charlotte. And of course, with the funky aesthetic, just about every spot inside the club is Instagram worthy.
