Marvel and Sony Make Up: Spider-Man Will Appear In Future Marvel Films
Weeks after Sony Pictures announced that they’d be making Spider-Man films without the help of Marvel — and, therefore, taking Spider-Man out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — the two studios have announced that their spat is over. Deadline reports that Sony and Marvel/Disney will team on a third Spider-Man film which will, once again, star Tom Holland. The film is due out July 16, 2021.
Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige said in a statement, “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Sony’s “Spider-Verse” includes Venom, whose first movie was released in 2018. Sony has also announced a Morbius film, starring Jared Leto, due out next year. Both Venom and Morbius are characters from the Spider-Man comic books.
