Officer Killed At SC Regional Airport
BERLIN, GERMANY - JANUARY 27: A passenger plane lands at Schoenefeld Aiport near the construction site and the new control tower of the new Berlin Brandenburg International Aiport (BBI) on January 27, 2012 in Berlin, Germany. A variety of grassroots local action groups are protesting against the new airport, claiming the landing and takeoff routes are too close to residential and environmentally sensitive areas. BBI Aiport is scheduled to open in June, 2012.
Officer Ryan Winkeler of Dillon, SC was shot and killed at a SC regional airport in Florence around 8pm Sunday January 5. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials did locate and apprehend the suspect who was later identified as James Edward Bell. The shooting happened during a traffic stop at the airport and dozens of officers responded to the report of the shooting. It is unclear as to what lead to the shooting but all entrances and exits were closed due to the ongoing investigation. Condolences to the officer killed and his family. We ask that everyone pray for him in this time of mourning.
