UNC Doctor Says Patients Currently Hospitalized With Covid Don’t Need To Be
It’s been fifteen months since terms social distancing and pandemic became part of our daily lives. In that time over 600,000 Americans have sadly passed away from COVID, and millions have mourned those losses. UNC School of Medicine Dr.David Zvara is one of those left grieving. The UNC doctor says that those patients who are currently hospitalized with covid really don’t need to be.
“Those folks who are getting sick today, those folks who are sick this week, those folks who are in the hospital just down the hall today don’t need to be here. Those individuals, nearly 99 to 1, are unvaccinated.”
Dr. Zvara went on to say “It’s the hesitancy. It’s the, ‘I’m not sure it’s safe. I’m not sure it’s been proven.’ All of that is just a fallacy – it’s just not true.” In addition to seeing patients and being in a hospital setting throughout the pandemic, he also lost a lifelong friend to the virus.
“He said, ‘Well, I can’t go out because I have a little cold,’ and then three days later he’s diagnosed with COVID, and then five days later he’s in the hospital, and three days after that he’s in the ICU, and two days after that he’s intubated on a ventilator in the ICU. Four days after that he’s dead, and two days after that he’s in the ground. At this stage, it’s frankly an unnecessary death.”
That certainly impacts his viewpoint on the situation. With the 99-1 ratio, patients who received the vaccine aren’t getting sick. As a result, those that are hospitalized don’t need to be.
“So, when I reflect on the loss of this friend that I’ve known for 55 years, it’s just sad. It’s tragic, and many of us have that story to tell, but when it touches your personal life, it cuts a little deeper.”
I believe life is about personal risk assessment and everyone deserves to make their own decisions. These types of statistics are intriguing and can be helpful to those still on the fence. All in all, you should be comfortable with whatever choice you make.
