Young Dolph: Memphis Plans Public Memorial & A Street Renaming
Last week, a private memorial service was held for Young Dolph in his hometown of Memphis. The rapper was shot and killed while patronizing a local bakery late last month. Now, the city is planning a public memorial to honor the late rapper.
One of the people who spoke at the private funeral was community activist Pastor Earle Fisher. Fisher spoke to local news outlet ABC24 on honoring Young Dolph, “It was good to see his family, his friends, people who have cared for him come together and remember his life.”
However, the pastor was concerned that no arrests have been made yet.
“With all of the pomp and circumstance that elected officials and civic leaders have put around this heinous murder, we could do something to bring the people who have been involved in this to accountability and justice a whole lot sooner,” he said. “The reality is there is a body being buried just about every day in Shelby County, and often we have people who are in powerful positions that have created policies that make these bodies pile up.”
Fisher said there would be a public memorial at the FedExForum on December 16, 2021. In addition, Memphis City Councilman J.B. Smiley announced that Memphis will honor Young Dolph by renaming a street for him, per local Fox13.
A public ceremony unveiling the street name will be held on Dec. 15 at 1:00 pm at Dunn Avenue and Airways Boulevard near the Memphis Depot Industrial Park.
