Rock Hill man found Not Guilty in Double Homicide
In 2019 a man, Jimar Neely, was involved in a shooting in Rock Hill that left two men dead and led to a shootout with police officers in York county. He was arrested and jailed for the crime but on Thursday Neely was found not guilty by reason on insanity.
Neely had a previous schizophrenia diagnosis and admitted he was not taking his medication and was hearing voices at the time of the killings.
Officers responded to a shooting on Rivercrest road in York county where they found 2 men 50 year old Robin Thompson who was found shot in a car and another man 55 year old Timothy Barber who was at the same address and also had gunshot wounds.
According to WBTV York county officers got a call about a burglary with gun shots and the suspect was driving a Dodge Charger, while heading to the scene of the robbery they spotted the vehicle which was later identified as Neely, when they tried to pull him over Neely fired at the officers and fled the scene on foot when he was later apprehended.
In court Thursday, a forensic psychologist went through Neely’s multiple mental health examinations – telling the court Neely did not know right from wrong at the time of the killings and was acting on the commands of voices he was hearing.
Neely will now be turned over to the department of mental health for treatment.
