Transgender Health Care Ban
We have been hearing a lot about Transgender health, and are a little confused, so let’s catch up. Transgender Health Care includes the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of physical and mental health conditions. This includes sex reassignment therapies, for transgender individuals. Yesterday The Southern Poverty Law Center released a press release about Transgender Health Care Ban. The three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision reversing a federal district court ruling. This ruling blocked the enforcement of Alabama’s law banning medical care for transgender adolescents. Courts say that these state bans discriminate against transgender minors and burden their parents. The 11th Circuit panel disagreed, holding that Alabama’s law does not discriminate based on sex or transgender status.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has a Learning for Justice program that provides free resources to caregivers and educators, teachers, administrators, counselors, and other practitioners. If you also work with children from kindergarten through high school you’re able to benefit from the Learning for Justice program. Educators use the materials to supplement the curriculum, inform their practices, and create civil and inclusive school communities where children and youth are respected, valued, and welcome participants. Also, check out their Civil Rights Memorial Center, and see the great reflection of our rich civil rights history.
