Beyoncé Opens Up About Psoriasis Amid Cécred Launch
In Beyoncé’s cover story with Essence, she revealed that she suffered from scalp psoriasis ( fine scaling that looks like dandruff or appears as thick, crusted plaques that cover the entire scalp, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation.) Her suffering from scalp psoriasis aided in how she created products for her Cécred haircare line.
“The relationship we have with our hair is such a deeply personal journey. From spending my childhood in my mother’s salon to my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis— these moments have been sacred to me,” she told the outlet.
She told the publication that she got the name for the haircare line by using the end of her first name, “Cé,” and made it the beginning to create Cécred. The singer went on to say that she feels a connection to her community with the release of the haircare line and that barbershops and beauty salons are the most “consistent community gathering we have.”
Beyoncé Launches Haircare Line Cécred
Cécred officially launched Tuesday (Feb. 20) and has eight pieces that include a clarifying shampoo and scalp scrub, moisturizing deep conditioner, moisturizing shampoo, sealing lotion, nourishing hair oil, reconstructing treatment mask, hydrating shampoo, and fermented rice and rose ritual treatment. Additionally, as part of the accessories, Cécred sells a cosmetic bag, and a “shaking vessel.”
Products range from $30-$52 and can be used for all hair types.
Beyoncé Hinted At Haircare Line On Renaissance World Tour
Back in May, when the singer was embarking on the Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé hinted at starting a haircare line.
“How many of y’all knew my first job was sweeping hair in my mama’s salon? Destiny’s Child got our start by performing for clients while they were getting their hair done,” Beyoncé wrote.
She continued, “I was exposed to so many different kinds of entrepreneurial women in her salon. I saw firsthand how the ways we nurture and celebrate hair can directly impact our souls.”
“I watched her heal and be of service to so many women. Having learned so much on my hair journey, I’ve always dreamed of carrying on her legacy,” added the Lemonade creator.
She ended the note with “can’t wait for you to experience what I’ve been creating,” with her first initial and a heart.
