T.I. and Tiny Awarded $71 Million in OMG Girlz Lawsuit Against Toy Company
T.I. and Tiny have found themselves on the winning side of a recent lawsuit against a popular toy company. The couple has been fighting a lawsuit against a toy company, MGA Entertainment, claiming the company copied their music group, the OMG Girlz, with their L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls.
OMG Girlz vs. O.M.G. dolls
On Monday, the ruling was announced that the couple had won and would receive $71 million with $53.6 million in punitive damages. The jury reportedly agreed that the “L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls” infringed on the trade dress and misappropriated the name, image, and likeness of the OMG Girlz. The OMG Girlz were founded by the couple in 2009 and include Bahja Rodgriguez, Breaunna Womack, and Tiny’s eldest daughter, Zonnique Pullins.
Pullins, 28, Rodriguez, also 28, and Womack, 29, all testified during the trial process. They testified that some of the dolls in question were in identical outfit choices of the girl group at very public appearances. They showed photos of both the girl group and the dolls to compare to the jury.
Following the verdict, T.I. and Tiny both celebrated outside of the courthouse and took to Instagram Live to celebrate their win. “We did this for the city. We did this for the culture,” said Tiny on the live video. “It was a fight. It was a hell of a fight,” she continued of the case that started in 2020 and lasted until Monday’s hearing. “We couldn’t be more happy.”
According to Rolling Stone, the jurors found that more than a dozen L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls were a reflection of the OMG Girlz singing group. Over the past few years, TIny and the group members have called out the dolls and their company to show the similarities between the girl group and the O.M.G. dolls. Looks like there is finally a settlement in this ongoing battle.
