Dishin’ With Debbie-Pilgrim Hats
I love Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite meal all year long, and I have many fantastic memories of big family dinners. It holds a special place in my heart. And so, when our premature son finally came home from the hospital right before Thanksgiving…my mother-in-law came to the rescue to help as I juggled a new baby and the big feast.
Having already had other grandchildren, she gave me so many helpful hints and ideas that even tho’ he was an infant and would not care about crafty treats for a long time…I could file them away for when he would. And, more importantly, I would have plenty of impressive things to take to the many school parties I would be involved with in the years to come. This is one of those tried and true kids’ treats that made numerous appearances both at our dinner and the classroom party table.
Here’s what you need…
Melted chocolate, ready for dipping…
Pop the hat onto the cookie with the help of a toothpick…
Onto a rack to set up and get ready for their decorative buckle…
Dressed and ready for dinner!
Ingredients
- 1 package of semi-sweet or milk chocolate morsels
- 1 package jumbo marshmallows
- 1 package fudge striped cookies
- tube of yellow decorator frosting
Directions
Melt the morsels in microwave according to package directions. I used about half the package of morsels, and I was able to get about 10 hats from that. I melted 30 seconds, then stirred, then 20 seconds, and stirred…and it was ready. Don’t overheat or you’ll lose your chocolate! Use a toothpick to pick up each marshmallow and dip in chocolate to coat completely. Use toothpick to carefully place on chocolate coated backside of cookie, resembling a hat. I just put the pick through the hole of the cookie, and then I simply slide it out. Allow to set on top of a cooling rack with wax paper underneath to catch drips. After treats have set, use the icing to pipe on hat bands and buckles at the base of the cookie.
