The biggest night in the culture took place last night…The 2021 BET Awards.  The show was hosted by Taraji P. Henson the theme was “Year of the Black Woman”.  Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, Tyler, The Creator, Migos, Method Man, and Cardi B are just a few of the stars that took the stage.  Megan Thee Stallion was the big winner of the evening, taking home 4 awards including the “Best Female Hip Hop Artist” and “Video of the Year” award for “WAP,” an award she shares with Cardi B.  Kirk Franklin and Lil Baby kicked off the show with their song, “We Win”.

In the most surprising moment of the BET Awards, Cardi B revealed that she is pregnant with baby #2.  The rapper came out on stage to perform “Type Sh_t” with the Migos and the crowd went crazy when they saw her belly.  She was in a black and diamond-encrusted Dolce & Gabbana bodysuit with a see-through tummy just right for her new baby bump.  After the performance she posted a maternity shoot photo with nothing but a plaster cast over her belly.

Not to be outdone by Cardi B’s baby reveal, Lil Nas X had a historic performance of his own at the BET Awards while performing his hit, “Montero” (Call Me by Your Name).  The rapper’s performance was reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” video with an Egyptian theme with dancers and Nas dressed in a Pharaoh costume.  At the end of his performance, Lil Nas X leaned over and kissed a male dancer, which brought the audience to their feet applauding the bold move. Nas’s performance comes on the final day of Pride month.

Jazmine Sullivan not only took home the “Album of The Year” award for “Heaux Tales”, she also performed and brought out a few special guests.  Her performance kicked off with Congresswoman Maxine Waters and ended with Ari Lennox joining Jazmine to perform their hit, “On It”.

Since the theme of the 2021 BET Awards was “Year of The Black Woman”, Queen Latifah was the perfect pick to honor with the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.  Lil Kim, Rapsody, MC Lyte, and Monie Love all to the stage to honor the living legend.
