Pharrell Pulls “Something In The Water” Festival Citing “Toxic Energy” in Virginia Beach
After the shooting death of his cousin in March 2020 by a Virginia Beach officer and a lack of response from the City over the shooting, Pharrell is pulling his “Something In The Water” festival. Pharrell wrote a letter explaining his decision to the Virginia Beach City Manager. (Click HERE to read the letter) The City Manager responded by asking for a sit down meeting.
In 2019, Pharrell debuted the music festival in his hometown of Virginia Beach. Acts like Jay-Z, Diddy, Usher, Snoop and more performed. The festival was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Something In The Water brought $41 million into Virginia Beach in 2019.
Lissen, I grew up in Virginia Beach. As a matter of fact, I graduated from the same high school as Pharrell’s Neptunes partner, Chad Hugo. I know all too well the “toxic” environment that Pharrell is speaking of. I stand with Pharrell and hope that REAL changes are made in the 757.
