Mecklenburg County Jail Employee Caught Smuggling A Phone To Inmate
A Mecklenburg County jail employee was caught smuggling a cell phone to an inmate. An investigation was started by officials after they received a tip that Samara Black, a health care worker at the jail, was smuggling contraband into the jail. She was fired, arrested, and charged with a felony. State law prohibits those in jail from having cellphones.
The Sheriff’s office released a statement about the situation saying in part, “This type of illegal activity is not tolerated by any persons working inside the detention facility and such actions only compromise the safety of the many hard working detention professionals who already face risks by the sheer nature of the profession.” Black worked for Wellpath as a discharge planner for about two years.
