#BlackMusicMonth – Music Meets Fashion
During Black Music Month, there are many different ways to spread your roots outside of the music industry.
I have seen some dabble in real estate, Wall Street investments, and some have dabbled in fashion. I decided to dabble myself, and talk about some of your favorite artists, that are staples in fashion. First, I have to start with Rihanna. RiRi has a partnership with Puma and has created some dope fashion. Not only has she done that, but from the MET Gala to just natural slayage, RiRi plays no games.
THIS Met Gala slay was just…..whew! AHHH-MAYY-ZING! Every year, Rihanna manages to take the theme and magnify it to the hills. If there is anyone that can embody music and fashion, it’s Rihanna.
Even though I’m not a huge fan of Kanye’s Yeezy clothing line, his shoes are dope! Kanye has wanted to dabble in fashion for a long time. He wanted to be a game changer in the fashion industry. Regardless of how I feel about his clothing line, I do believe that Kanye has become a game changer. Most of the time we see athletes with shoe lines. Kanye was successful with his partnership with Adidas. So much so, the same way you see people line up for Jordans, people line up for Yeezy’s. When it comes down to his clothing line, the prices are not cheap, but sometimes as a designer, you know what audience you are catering to and it may not be the same as your listening audience in this case. Big ups to Kanye.
Last but not least, is Chris Brown. He has a partnership with Pyramid clothing and Chris is one that also has the potential to do what Beyonce did with Ivy Park. Chris’ has die hard fans. No matter what he does, they are down. Now, with a lot of the things going on in the media recently with Chris, he really needs to clean it up a bit to reach that beyond peak potential he can reach in the fashion industry.
I know some may think, well why did you not include Beyonce? Beyonce has her hands in a lot, and I already think that she has conquered what she set out to do in the fashion world. Some of these people mentioned haven’t, but I do think they will conquer exactly what they set out to do and make it a game changer when they do.
Music and fashion always go hand in hand. From the memorable Young Thug cover for his album Jeffery to Kanye with the Yeezy line, they will always we tied into each other. Why not make the best of both worlds while you have the platform.
