Top 4 Weekend Getaways in the Carolinas
If you live in the Queen City and are feeling like it’s time for a little escape but you don’t want to book flights or rent cars, then you’re in luck.
Toss your bags into your trunk and head to one of these great locations:
Asheville: This charming city is about two hours from Charlotte and has a unique vibe of its own. Here you’ll find tons of breweries, eclectic shops, and even the famous Biltmore Estate.
Charleston: About three hours from Charlotte, just across the SC state line is the beautiful city of Charleston. This town is full of brightly colored buildings (including Rainbow Row), cobblestone streets, historic churches, and horse-drawn carriages. While you’re there you also need to stop by the Angel Oak, a massive tree that is believed to be 1,500 years old!
Wilmington: Take a 3 1/2 hour drive to the coast to experience this beautiful little beach town. The historic downtown district is loaded with mom and pop shops, restaurants, and attractions including the USS North Carolina Battleship and the Riverwalk, which runs along the Cape Fear River. And if you love being in the outdoors you gotta check out Airlie Gardens, a beautiful public botanical garden.
Lake Lure: If you drive a little under 2 hours you’ll stumble upon the location where Dirty Dancing was filmed. Lake Lure is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Soak up the breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery, whether you take it in by canoe on the water, or from sunbathing on the shore.
