12th Annual Hornets Heroes Gala
The Charlotte Hornets hosted their 12th annual Heroes Gala. In addition to raising funds for the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, the Hornets Heroes Gala also serves as an awards celebration, recognizing individuals for their contributions to the Charlotte community. This year’s honorees are Dr. Michael Marsicano, President & Chief Executive Officer of Foundation For The Carolinas (Education Hero); Anne Springs Close, Chairwoman of the Springs Close Foundation (Hunger Hero); the Life Event Services Team at Bank of America (Military Hero); and Dr. Michael S. Hoben, Senior Physician Executive in Novant Health Medical Group (Wellness Hero).
ESPN commentator Sage Steele served as the Master of Ceremonies of the evening as a number of people were honored and awarded. One of the people recognized was Dr. Michael Marsicano. Education Hero Dr. Michael Marsicano joined the Foundation For The Carolinas in 1999 after serving as President & CEO of the Arts & Science Council in Charlotte for 10 years. Managing assets, owned and represented, of $2.5 billion, the Foundation For The Carolinas holds 3,000 charitable funds and ranks as the sixth-largest largest community foundation in the United States. Since Dr. Marsicano has been at its helm, contributions to the Foundation have totaled more than $4 billion and grant awards more than $2.6 billion.
