1 Year Ago Today, Tragedy Struck at Butler High School
I normally wake up around 3:30am every morning. This morning, I woke up to a text from the Assistant Principal at Butler High School, Mrs. Gamble.
Hey sis! Just an Fyi (sorry so late, I’m up working) tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of the tragedy at our school! We are choosing to designate it as a day of kindness and encourage students and adults to be kind to one another, communicate positively, way a kind word and move forward together! A few activities planned starting in the am and trying to spread positive energy to out kids and staff!
I thought to myself, “Has it really been a year already?”
On this day, 1 year ago, tragedy struck the campus of Butler High School. Around 7:10 am, gunshots rang out in the hallway leaving 16 year old Bobby McKeithen dead and a high school campus changed forever. Even though this was 365 days ago, it seems like yesterday for some. After the incident, the students and staff came together and started the hashtag #ButlerStong and continue to work towards this motto.
Even though I couldn’t be with the Bulldogs, I wanted to show my act of kindness. So today, I wear Black and Red in support of all of the students and staff at Butler High School. You are Loved, We Are Family, and You Matter. We are #ButlerStrong!
