The Original Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Is Here
I stopped by my wonderful alma mater, The Johnson C. Smith University, on Saturday for the basketball game (JCSU vs. Livingstone) and was greeted by some adorable faces. The Brownies from Girl Scout Troop 870 and they had my weakness….Girl Scout Cookies. Sweet Faces, Sweet Cookies, how could I resist!
After the girls went over ALL the choices with me, I decided on my ultimate favorite…Trefoils. Over the years, they have never done me wrong. I can literally eat an entire box in one sitting. (I am actually eating them right now) I also love Thin Mints and Tagalongs but I already got some of those in my 1st cookie order. YES, I make multiple Girl Scout Cookie orders. Don’t judge me! I’m helping the youth. (that’s how I justify the 10 boxes in my pantry)
What is your favorite girl scout cookie? Head on over to my IG page @heymsjessica and let me know.
By the way, I did a little research. Girl Scouts starting making and selling cookies back in 1917 as a means to fund their activities. Here is the original Girl Scout Cookie recipe. If you make em, let me know how they taste!
- 1 cup of butter, or substitute
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 2 cups of flour
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
Cream butter and sugar; add well-beaten eggs, then milk, flavoring, flour, and baking powder. Roll thin and bake in quick oven. (Sprinkle sugar on top.)
This amount makes six to seven dozen.
Modern-day tips (not part of the original recipe): Refrigerate batter for at least one hour before rolling and cutting cookies. Bake in a quick oven (375°) for approximately 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges begin to brown.
