Today We Wear Purple For “Epilepsy Awareness Day”
This is my sorority sister, Mick, and she has Epilepsy.
Isn’t she cute! I asked her to send me a quick message about her experience with epilepsy this morning. Here is what she had to say..
I was in denial for so long. When I talk about it now it makes me so sad. I lost my favorite Aunt to a brain tumor which caused her seizures. So when the doctor first told me my seizure was coming from a spot on my brain I was shocked, very scared and just shut down. I just knew the same thing was going to happen to me so I denied having epilepsy. Didn’t tell anyone didn’t want to take my medicine. Didn’t want to stop driving. Me and my doctor got in several arguments. She threatened to call DSS on me because I was driving with my kids and wasn’t supposed to be driving. Me and that hoe tight now though LOL. A lot has happen from 2012-2017 my last seizure was in 2016 but I still have to take this medicine for the rest of my life. Hopefully that spot just stays a spot and doesn’t change. This medicine is the best for me it doesn’t metabolize in my liver but it makes me aggravated easily ????. I could talk to you for days about this situation. My husband has definitely been there for me the whole entire time. I couldn’t have married anyone better.
According to the website purpleday.com, “Epilepsy is a neurological disorder of the central nervous system, specifically of the brain . It is characterized by the tendency to have recurrent seizures.”
- Approximately 50 million people around the world are living with Epilepsy.
- Approximately 2.2 millon Americans are living with the disorder.
- While there is no cure for Epilepsy, it is highly treatable.
Today, March 26th, is “Epilepsy Awareness Day” and people around the world are encouraged to wear purple in support. So today, my sorority sisters and I are wearing purple for Mick and everyone else with Epilepsy. We Love You Boo!
