Do Fast Food Resturants have ‘Secret Menus’ Actually Exist?
Knowing how to ask for a secret menu item seems to be the cool thing to do. The craze started with ordering Starbucks drinks and now we are all asking, do other fast-food restaurants have secret menus?
Essentially, a secret menu item is normally something a customer orders from the regular menu but customizes it. Some people think restaurants like Burger King, In-N-Out, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell all have secret menus consumers can discover. But the truth is, they are all just a marketing scheme. The question of “do fast-food restaurants have ‘secret menus’ can be answered with a big fat NO! If you have to tell an employee who works at the fast-food establishment what the ‘item’ actually is…that’s not a secret people…it’s just extra work.
However, customization of menu items is not a lie. You can essentially create a new fast-food version of your order by doing a customer request to your order and a very fun website called #HackTheMenu shows you how here. This company has customizable menu suggestions from fast food secret menus like Arbys. Burger King, Carl’s Jr., Chick-fil-A, Chipolte, Dairy Queen. Five Guys, In-N-Out Burger, Jack in the Box, Mcdonald’s, Jamba Juice, KFC, Panera Bread, Shake Shack, Sonic, Starbucks, Subway, Taco Bell, Wendys, and Whataburger. I took a look at some of the fast-food restaurant’s secret menus and pulled three examples of how the idea of a secret menu is as mythical as a unicorn.
Example One from McDonald’s ‘Secret Menu’ The Root Beer Float
Apparently, this is a secret menu item on the Mcdonald’s menu. all you need to do is order a root beet float 9which is not featured on their actual menu) but it’s literally just vanilla ice cream with rootbeer added. If your location doesn’t have rootbeer you can ask for a Coke float instead.
Example Two from Burger King’s ‘Secret Menu’ The Rodeo Burger
If you head to the Burger King drive-through and order a cheeseburger with two extras, onion rings, and BBQ sauce, then boy you got yourself the famous secret menu item…the Rodeo Burger. Some Burger King’s use to actually have this item on the regular Burger King menu, so you might even try throwing the name out and an employee with know what you are asking for.
Example Three from Taco Bell’s ‘Secret Menu’ The Hulk Burrito
I love the Hulk (the superhero of course but now I am curious if I got to my local Taco Bell and order this fast food secret menu item if I would like it too. The Hulk Burrito, one of Taco Bell’s simplest secret menu options, and all it involves are asking for a bean and cheese burrito loaded with guacamole. Yes, just ask for extra guacamole…that is the Hulk.
Overall, fast food restaurants don’t have secret menu items, they just have customers customizing their regular menu items to make new delicious (or questionable) menu items of their own. So if you like being “extra” and exclusive during your fast food visit, be my guest and place a crazy ‘secret menu’ order!
