Mikey Williams Leaves Lake Norman For A New Charlotte Team
Big news in the world of high school basketball. Mikey Williams, will NOT play for Lake Norman Christian School this year. Instead, the 5-star national recruit will play for a new program here in the Queen City called Vertical Academy. (He will continue to take classes at Lake Norman). Joining Mikey at Vertical will be Lake Norman Christian point guard, Josh Bullock. Bullock will play for Vertical in August, then return to Lake Norman in November to play for the traditional high school season.
Not familiar with Vertical Academy? Here are some details about the new school.
Vertical Academy is founded by Mahlon Williams, Mikey’s father, along with Clean Juice owners, Kat and Landon Eckles. They will play a national schedule beginning in August and ending in March with 25 games in 19 states already on the books. According Mahlon Williams, “We’re not going to be sanctioned by any high school association.” He goes on to say, “We’re adopting the European (basketball) model.” Vertical’s roster will include 10 plays and they have already received initial commitments from players in Kentucky, South Carolina and Texas. The team will be sponsored by a major shoe company. No basketball coach has been named at this time.
