Andre Leon Talley, Dead At 73; 33 Pictures of the Fashion Icon
Fashion icon and former Editor-at-Large at ‘Vogue’, Andre Leon Talley, passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in White Plains, NY. It’s unclear at this time why he was hospitalized.
Talley was a trailblazer in the fashion world. He started his career at “Vogue” in 1983 as the News Fashion Director. In 1987, he was promoted to Creative Director and held that position until 1995 when he moved to Paris to work for “W Magazine“. In 1998, he returned to “Vogue” as the Editor-at-Large. In May 2020, Talley released his memoir titled, “The Chiffon Trenches“. During his career, he made sure that Black models were represented on the runway.
Talley has strong ties to the Carolinas. His grandmother raised him in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated from Hillside High School in 1966 and continued his education at North Carolina Central University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in French Literature in 1970. He then received a scholarship to Brown University where he earned a Masters in French Literature.
