A Special Team yet Still Overlooked: Central Cabarrus Vikings
If there has ever been a team more overlooked and disrespected in high school team sports then it’s this team located in Concord, NC. The Boys basketball team at Central Cabarrus High School finished their season undefeated winning north the regular season & conference tournament championships yet they were not rewarded with a #1 seed but given the 2. Mind you they are the only team in the entire 3A playoff bracket who’s undefeated & both #1 seeds are no longer in the playoffs.
This team plays a chaotic style of basketball that gets any team that steps on the court with them frustrated and forces them into mistakes that they many not normally make. No this team may not be tall or have a “big” man like traditional basketball fans may want but they play bigger than what they are. This team Averages 85 points 22 asts and this is the stat that stuck out the most to me 20.6 steals per game.
Jaiden Thompson is the team captain & leads the team in points (19.6) and rebounds (5.6) he is a smooth floor general that I’ve never seen lose his cool or composure in game even when a team has tried to rattle him. The Daniel twins (Chase & Carson) are a dynamic duo that bring the energy to the team, they can facilitate the ball & score at will whenever they want along with Thompson. The “big” man down low Gavin Bullock does the majority of the dirty work under the basket, leading the team in charges taken & blocks even tho he only stands at 6’2” Off the bench Jay’Kwon Diaz-Cruz aka Boogie gives the team immediate offense when he enters the game & also gives the enforcer guy feel.
Adriel Miller is the guy on the team that can play both ends of the floor for the entirety of the game. His mix of speed and awareness is problematic for teams that they face. Not only will he defend any player on the floor but he will also knock down shots when they count the most.They play their quarterfinal game tonight against Enka High School at Central Cabarrus high school at 6pm.
