Georgia Restaurant Adds $50 “Unable To Parent” Charge To Checks
When I was growing up, you’d go to a restaurant, and sit down the kids’ menu usually came with crayons and coloring or activity sheets. Perhaps I’d bring a new small toy. But I knew how to sit and entertain myself and eat a meal. But these days it seems like parents have to have to have a plethora of things to keep their kids occupied for a simple meal. Or they just throw a phone or iPad in the kids’ face. I’ll be the first to admit that I know my attention span has suffered thanks to screens. And that certainly seems to be the case with kids as well. I don’t have kids so I’m not going to pretend I know how to parent. But I will say kids have seemingly gotten a little more unruly in public. That’s what led a Georgia restaurant to institute an unable to parent charge on certain checks.
Unable To Parent Charge
And it’s, unsurprisingly, causing some major controversy. The restaurant is called Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in Blue Ridge Georgia. You can read about the policy directly on the menu they have on their website. It says “Adult Surcharge for parents unable to parent $$$”. Numerous media outlets are reporting that it is a $50 charge. The restaurant seemingly doesn’t play around also charging gratuity on any check over 6 guests, when checks are split, and even for a birthday menu? They also clearly state “no respect to service”. And listen I get it. People act out in ways we’ve never seen. And perhaps any publicity is good publicity?
I’m not so sure in this case. The last post on Toccoa Riverside Restaurant’s Instagram page is from July 4th. But that hasn’t stopped a slew of people from making their opinions heard on this unable to parent charge.
It doesn’t appear they have commented on all the attention, will be interesting to see if the owners defend the policy or rescind it.
Charlotte Restaurants with Recent Low Health Inspection Scores
Charlotte is NOT a city short on places to eat out. But the restaurant scene isn’t always a good one. According to the latest ratings by the North Carolina health inspectors, there are quite a few restaurants in the Queen City that don’t quite make the mark.
The N.C. Division of Environmental Health serves as the governing body that keeps the public’s health safe. Restaurant inspection scores come from this division or local health departments. Each local health department has its own Board of Health. The N.C. Boards of health act as the gatekeepers for managing these inspection scores for restaurants and setting the standard.
Most people these days are more aware of restaurant’s inspection scores. It can reveal a lot about the restaurants level of cleanliness and how it handles its food. A low score doesn’t necessarily mean the restaurant is unfit. There may be a few areas the establishment in that did not meet the state’s health inspection standards. For example, some of the most common reasons for low scores were food handlers not washing their hands properly, contaminated food containers, and improper food temperatures. Many restaurants are now using infrared thermometers to avoid this issue.
Nonetheless, there are several Charlotte restaurants that received low inspection scores, but knowing the specific reason for that score can make a difference. You be the judge when reviewing these eight restaurants that ranked low scores from the health department. Check out some of the violations. A few of the restaurants may surprise you.
