October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Rates Are Rising In U.S.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Unfortunately, the rates for this horrible disease continue to rise in the U.S., according to a new report from the American Cancer Society.
According to the report, breast cancer rates have increased by about 1% every year since 2012. Rates are spiking even faster among younger women, and among Asian American and Pacific Islander women under the age of 50. The report did include one promising statistic – breast cancer mortality rates are down 44% since the late ’80s. In addition to those stats, The National Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation is reporting that in 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Remember early detection is key and saves lives! When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.
