Exonerated “Central Park Five” File Defamation Lawsuit Against Donald Trump
“The Central Park Five” members, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise, have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump over his comments during the presidential debate.
The lawsuit alleges that Trump made up an assertion that the five Black and Latino men, who were wrongfully imprisoned for the 1989 rape of a White female jogger while they were teenagers, had killed someone in a string of attacks that took place in Central Park. “They admitted. They said, they pled guilty. And I said, well, if they pled guilty they badly hurt a person, killed a person ultimately. And if they pled guilty, then they pled we’re not guilty.”
The men, who were teenagers at the time of their indictment, maintained their innocence throughout their cases and pled not guilty. The victim in the case was not killed. The men spent 5 years in prison and were exonerated in 2002. Trump’s comments about the Exonerated Central Park Five were inaccurate and defamatory, which is why they filed a lawsuit against him.
