15 Foods and Spices You Should Bring On A Camping Trip
Camping this weekend? Watch out for the bears. Every time I prepare for a few days of camping in the wilderness, I make sure to pack all the essential foods. Whether I’m staying in a tent or in a cabin, I am always prepared.
So what food should you pack for camping? While it depends on equipment and how long you plan to camp, here are my suggestions of 15 foods and spices you should pack when camping.
- Trail nuts, mixed nuts. If you are allergic, please don’t bring them. Avoid like the plague.
- Beef jerky is a must! If you need protein, energy, and a delicious snack…pack some beef jerky. These are dry foods that are easy to pack and a perfect hike pick-me-up.
- Coffee! (you can also bring a little bag of sugar and chill a small bottle of milk) This is always a must for me to keep that energy going. Also, I just love the way warm coffee tastes on a crisp mountain morning.
- Fruit cups are perfect for your camping trips. You can get a pack of four for less than $2 at your local grocery store and they are a great source of energy.
- Paprika! It adds a little kick to your meals. Also…throw a little onion powder, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and whatever spices you love in a ziplock too. Then you won’t go to the store and you’ll have all your cooking spices at hand.
- Granola bars should always be in your camping bag. They are great on-the-go snacks and filled with energy.
- Steak and potato night? It’s easy to cook and filling. For a grill dinner idea while camping makes a steak.
- Peanut butter squeeze packs or cups! If you are allergic avoid, but if not these bad boys provide an instant burst of energy. They provide a great source of protein, fiber and fill you up!
- Eggs and bacon. Nothing better than throwing some eggs and making crispy bacon for breakfast when you are camping.
- Does a grilled Bacon-wrapped Trout sound tasty to you? Prepare your freshly caught rainbow trout into a delicious meal with herbs and bacon. It’s a fueling and satisfying fit for camping.
- Burger Day? Pack some burgers, lettuce, onions, peppers, cheese, and buns for burger night! If you need ketchup, mayo, and mustard, grab some little packets to pack.
- Pancake mix and syrup. Such an easy breakfast idea and you can make them as fluffy as you like.
- Butter. Stick, tub, or spray…whatever floats your boat. You need it to cook and it’s a must.
- Ready to step back into your college years? Bringing some instant mac and cheese and ramen noodles is a must. These are yummy, easy to make (only need hot water), and really easy to pack. Just a simple grab n go and you are set.
- And finally… the campfire smores materials! Pack yourself some marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers.
