Ms. Jessica Celebrates Her “DELTAversary” With Her Line Sisters “The 83 Tragedies”
Over the weekend, my line sisters and I celebrate 20 years of membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I still remember the day of our probate. I was excited and nervous at the same time. You see, I am what is known as a legacy. My mother, grandmother, and great-aunt are all members of Delta Sigma Theta. Throughout my life, I have always been surrounded by dynamic woman that were members of this sisterhood. And while some think that people only join sororities and/or fraternities to step or to wear the letters, that wasn’t my reasoning at all. I wanted to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta because I saw these woman running the world! I admired them because they put action behind their words. So when it was my turn to join this illustrious organization, I jumped at the opportunity.
Over the weekend, my line sisters and I not only celebrated a sisterhood that was created 20 years ago, we did what Delta’s do….SERVE! We bagged over 100 toiletry bags for the students and residence halls at our beloved university, Johnson C. Smith. We sponsored the “Golden Bull PINK OUT“, a hip hop group exercise class and breast cancer awareness event on campus for the students and community. We also donated $4,000 to JCSU.
It was wonderful to be with so many of my sisters again and I can’t wait until our 25th! I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., inducted into the Gamma Lambda chapter on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University, #61 also known as “Unstoppable” of the “83 Tragedies”.
