Ohio Court Requires Man, 21, To Get COVID-19 Vaccine Despite His Refusal
A 21-year-old man in Ohio was ordered to get the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of his probation. If he is not vaccinated by his next court appearance he will be sent back to jail. The man has stated he will not get the vaccine. He was sentenced to two years probation for possession of fentanyl. The judge said in a statement, this defendant was in possession of fentanyl which is deadlier than the vaccine and Covid-19. The defendant expressed no objections during the proceedings and stated no medical concerns.
“I don’t plan on getting it. I don’t want it,” the defendant told WCPO 9. “So, for him to tell me that I have to get it in order for me to not violate my probation is crazy because I’m just trying to do what I can to get off this as quickly as possible, like finding a job and everything else, but that little thing can set me back.”
Health care is not uncommon to be ordered by judges. In spite of this, this case is somewhat controversial, since COVID-19 vaccines are fairly new, and their opponents are very vocal. The mandates for it have been a hotly debated topic. The man’s attorney told CNN that his client plans to wait out the 60 days and see if he takes any action. If action is taken they will file a motion in opposition to the order.
I find this a slippery slope. I don’t like the mandates because I don’t like the idea that the government should be able to determine what’s in someone’s best interest. And honestly, it seems odd to me that this is a condition of probation. It is interesting that the court requires the man to get the COVID-19 vaccine. I certainly anticipate there will be several cases regarding mandatory vaccinations and vaccine passports in the near future.
