Here Is What Gov. Roy Cooper Is Doing To Help Stop The COVID Spread In Nursing Homes Across The State
Several Nursing homes and senior care facilities across the state have confirmed dozens of new cases. According to the NCDHHS (NC Department of Health and Human Services) in 21 counties there have been outbreaks at 42 living areas which include 29 nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities.
Nursing homes are prone to disease and infections due to the nature of the facility and the tenants/workers within. It may be easy to be distant socially in an area such as this but the probability of transmission is still at a high. Public health monitors establishments such as these continuously in order to ensure quality health through inspections. Some of the facilities nationally and locally have struggled to receive good inspection and reviews because of their high deficiencies.
Correctional facilities have also been affected. Throughout the state there have been a total of 6 cases. In response to this, Gov. Roy Cooper issued direct orders specifically for nursing homes in the middle of this outbreak. Facilities are encouraged to screen residents and workers for signs of illness. There is now a restriction of visitation unless the resident is about to die and of gathering on common areas as well as the engagement of activities. Also it is mandatory that all employees protect themselves by wearing a face mask.
These efforts may not rid the facility of the virus but it will definitely limit the outbreaks.
