We now know when students enrolled in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be going back for the 2020-2021 academic year.  Opening day for students will be Aug. 17th.  The original date was August 31st.

The change comes after a new law was passed by the North Carolina General Assembly requiring public schools across the state to open on Aug. 17 and end before Memorial Day 2021.

The new date means that Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will start before the Republic National Convention will is currently scheduled for Aug, 24th-27th.  Donald Trump took to twitter on Memorial Day to threaten to pull the convention due to NC Governor Roy Cooper's  "Safer at Home" order.  If the RNC is held in Charlotte, students will use remote learning during that week.
