CMPD Announces A New Police Chief

The City of Charlotte is getting a new Police Chief.  CMPD Deputy Chief Johnny Jennings has been with CMPD since 1992 and was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2016.  He currently oversees the Support Services group, including the Community Services Bureau.  Our current Police Chief, Kerr Putney, will retired after the Republican National Convention which is currently scheduled for August 24-27 right here in Charlotte, NC.  Jennings will take office in September 2020.

The @cmpdhq and @cltgov announce the next police chief, CMPD Deputy Chief Johnny Jennings. Jennings was a member of the CMPD's 108th recruit class graduating in May 1992. Jennings has held a variety of positions and ranks throughout the department, including patrol sergeant and captain over the North Tryon Division, major over Intelligence, Investigations and more.
