Residents at The Days Inn on Woodlawn Road in South Charlotte were evacuated on Thursday evening after the fire department deemed the hotel unsafe to live in. The hotel guest left peacefully and no arrests or injuries were reported.
A legal battle between the residents and the hotel has been going on for about a month where the hotel owners say at least $20,000 worth of damage has been done to the hotel. A judge finally ruled saying that The Days Inn can remove anyone that is living in there illegally.
Even though the building blocked off with caution tape and barriers, the evicted residents were allowed to enter Friday morning to retrieve their belongings. Authorities say, those that were evicted were offered assistance. (No word on exactly what that assistance is.). The next court case regarding this situation will be in June.
