Charlotte Based Pilot Killed in Puerto Rico
Over the weekend Matthew Stapula, 48, of Concord was shot and killed during a layover in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
While smoking a cigarette outside of a nightclub, Matthew was caught in the crossfire. He was one of three that were shot .Unfortunately he was among the two that died.
Matthew was a pilot for American Airlines. Aviation was his passion. He loved to fly especially at times when he was able to work alongside his daughter, who is a flight attendant.
This was was the Pilots first trip from his new home in Charlotte. “He was based in Miami, so he was really excited to be based at home,” . “He was very excited to be able to spend more time at home.” Says his wife Michelle Stapula.
Puerto Rican authorities are cooperating with local law enforcement to investigate this incident.
Our prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.
